YRHS Band Uniforms
Revised September, 2001
Marching Band Uniform Red jacket and overlay Black band pants with suspenders Shako hat with plume (medium to long hair must be up neatly inside the hat) Black socks & shoes Orange school t-shirt to be worn underneath uniform
Concert & Jazz Band Uniform
Red jacket White shirt with a collar (supplied by the student) Bow tie Black band pants with suspenders Black shoes & socks
A one-time high school user fee of $20.00 is to be paid the first year you join the YRHS band (grade 9). It is used for dry-cleaning, repairs and replenishing uniforms. The orange school tshirt is worn when travelling and also under the marching uniform. Suspenders are available for $7.00 or you can use your own, any color is fine. All band students must wear suspenders with their pants. Therefore, total cost to a new student is $47.00 which includes the one-time fee, the red shirt and suspenders. Please hang a white collared dress shirt in your garment bag to use for concert band performances. Keep the bowtie in the inside pocket of the tunic. Black socks and flat black shoes are also needed for all performances.
Please put your shoes and suspenders on when you measure your pants for hemming. The white stripe on the leg should hang straight. The pants will be approximately 1 to 1 ½ inches off the floor at the heel when you have your shoes on. Please do not cut, glue or staple the pant legs when hemming! If you are unable to hem the pants yourself, they can be hemmed professionally at a reasonable cost ($5 or so).
On uniform fitting night, please bring a cheque payable to Yorkton & District Band Boosters for $47 (user fee $20, red shirt $20, suspenders $7.) If you know any band students who have graduated or are no longer in band, they may be willing to sell their t-shirt, suspenders, shoes and white dress shirt at a reduced cost. To purchase everything you need may seem like a large cost but, remember, they will last you for four years in band.
It costs Yorkton & District Band Boosters approximately $500.00 for a complete high school uniform. Please take good care of your uniform so it can be used for many years. Do not wash the uniform at home. It is drycleaned only. All uniforms are collected in July after the Yorkton parades so they can be drycleaned and repaired for the following year.
